Bonnie @ London, staying with Eva and Karen (2 very sweet/funny gals) – sneezing off the first day (pbbly allergy), amazed by London’s beauty and history, watched Les Miserables for GBP 22 at 10th row front seat, shopped/ate/walked all over London…and fell in love with the city. Completely.

Bonnie @ Exeter – had a super fun time with Nick, even though Exeter is more country-sided, but spending time with Nick totally totally beats my time in London! We walked all around the school - magnificent views and the freshest air I have ever smelled in the longest time…!!! It was crisp, fresh, kind of like cold Fiji water (u know, the brand of water that taste slightly sweet naturally?) We made dinner and had Big Bang marathon – totally cracked up!! Also saw Lie to Me, really interesting!! The best part was the talking…haha, we talked all night long…barely slept. Jeez, I never thought Nick was as talkative as my gfs! Haha I love you, my baby brother. Missed him terribly when I had to leave for Paris… Teared up as usual…

SUPER AWESOME WEEKEND: Girls Day Out @ Bongos +

^______________________________^

The past weekend, we had a really awesome girl's day out @ Bongos, a really great burger place!!  It was a really comfortable and cozy restaurant, also quite popular among the foreigners in Taipei, that offers WONDERFUL burgers -- juicy and tender beef patty with delicious cheese fries~~ *YUMMMM*!!!

Anyhow, so there were me, Junie (陳太太), Iris (my colleague from LB, also known as "蕭太太"), Emma (known as "Little Rice" or "阿信1"), and Jessie (known as "阿信2")....

We chatted about everything -- from work, to life, to plans, to future, to superstars (such as Mayday, 蕭敬藤..)....to just about all the things you can think of that girls would talk about.  We talked from 1pm to past 5pm -- oh, but it was SO MUCH FUN! ^_________^ (and thank goodness to the free refill drinks so that we can go on and on...)

Afterwards, Iris took us to walk around her college -- NTU (National Taiwan University, also known as "the Harvard of Taiwan")...and we had a lot of fun checking out the old architectures, the families taking their kids there to paly with sports, the college students riding bike, the young couples who are smitten with each other....all this made me nostalgic of my college life. Miss it deeply...

Then, we saw this stage with lighting shooting into the sky...and we all got curious, so went ahead to check out who is performing....  We saw plastic chairs, a tent, just some old men and women sitting on the plastic chairs...and saw a few college-looking people with guitars on the stage, and thought "its just a college student performance" -- but there was this guy wearing suit standing in the middle, with his back to us...Iris said, "該不會是周華健吧", and I immediately reply, "不會啦!!"---b/c there are only a few people there.....not crowded and everyone who were sitting were far away from the stage, plus even the "VIP" labeled chairs were palstic....^^''

Anyhow, as the college students start playing their guitar -- the man in suit turns around (we still weren't sure who that is then b/c we were still just slowing walking towards the front of the stage)...but then, he started singing...."這些年..一個人 風也過 雨也走..."

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE IDOL OF MY CHILDHOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jeesh, when we heard it, we kinda screamed....and he WAVED at us!!!!!!!!! ^________^

Seriously, I have never felt such heart beating emotions for someone I barely know...but his singing really touched my heart!! I remember how I used to listen to his songs going to sleep -- its really amazing hearing his voice and seeing him RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME.

We got hold of the performance program, and realized that he was rehearsing for NTU's 80th Anniversary Celebration -- he was performing b/c he is an alumni of NTU (and majored in Math -- smart guy, right?!?!?! I looooove smart guys~ ^_^).

So, I recorded his singing using my camera -- and GOT TO TAKE PICS WITH HIM!!! TWICE!!!! It was such a fun encounter!!!

Don't we look sooooooooo HAPPY together??? ^____________^

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Then, later Iris went shopping, while the rest of us went to my house to help Junie "to get out of her bottle"...^^''

while Little Rice was helping her out, Jessie and I enjoyed the fresh chocolate from Paris (which was originally from Simone and Andy -- they took it directly from Switzerland to Chao! sooo tasty!!)

Thank you, darling girls and 周華健, for the amazing, awesome weekend~ *hug*

November 12, 2008 @ 7:06 TAIWAN TIME

AT LAST, he has been arrested.  Some may claim he doesn't need to be arrested right now because he would not flee anyhow, but according to the typical justice system, he would have been in jail for a while by now. They are already giving him leniency -- and only want to arrest him when they are nearly confirmed all evidences are collected and ready to charge him. Besides, from what he has been doing the past weeks -- blaming others for his mistakes, making false accusations, claiming he is "carrying the cross" for Taiwan...he really shouldn't be out bothering the public.

What he has been doing simply makes me think that he maybe is dellusional:

He said:..."carrying the cross" for Taiwan...

To him: Whatever you have done not only hurt Taiwan, but especially hurting Taiwanese people, and worse yet, you have deeply shamed yourself and disrespect Christianity for using the term as "carrying the cross" -- what you did was simply wrong (you even said so yourself).  I would have the minimal respect for you as a human being deserves if you come off clean, but what you have done lately really makes me think you deserve less than those murderers who admit their crimes.

By saying he is wrong, I am not saying anyone else is right.  Of course, there have been a long, horrible, dirty, and scary history in KMT during the time before, and what Chen is accused of does not justify what KMT did was right.  From what DDP have been doing lately, I am losing my respect for them -- when "clean politics" is DDP's core belief, but yet, their first presidential candidate in office let down all those people who believed in them. So, this matter is to be evaluated case by case, not judgement of the political party.  I do think that the current government is trying to do everything they can to make this trial fair and square -- furthermore, they even went out of their way to satisfy Chen's every ridiculous need and attempt to delay imprisonment.  Actually, the justice department is not being fair to other criminals because Chen has been recieving preferential treatment -- but what can I say, the Taiwanese media is tinted, and they are trying to lessen people's opposition to his arrest.

Anyhow, this entry simply wants to track my feeling on this matter: the first Taiwanese president in detainment.

PS. He is really smart (too bad turned into someone who is this greedy)...he took every single opportunity to get himself exposed to the media -- and this pose (him handcuffed raised in the air) totally got passed around all over international media...what a freaking good PR for himself...DAMMIT. ><""

November 2008 - History in the Making

I am so very proud that I am part of our current time, and making great movements in history as we grow...

The first black and youngest president of the United States of America.

Recording breaking voter turn out! I can't wait for the result of the popular votes to come out because it will again confirm that people are truly disappointed with what the Republicans have done in the past 8 years -- and we are ready to change! YES, WE CAN!

Chen Yunlin visiting Taiwan and made agreements with Taiwan to improve air and shipping links -- triple the number of weekly direct passenger flights and allow cargo shipments between ports in China and Taiwan -- and to aim to better postal and food safety.

Even though many people felt disappointment with President Ma's efforts, but I must say, honestly, with the high expectation people had for him prior to the election, it was really hard to achieve such expectation within a short time -- for anyone (and I believe the same disappointment will happen to President Obama).  However, I am glad that he has taken major steps in accomplishing this breakthrough agreement with China -- because, we, alone, can't survive in such a harsh economic envrionment.  I am not saying Taiwan is part of China (I don't think Taiwan is part of China), but I do think Taiwan needs to use China to stablize and strengthen its economy, and also politics -- so that eventually it can be an essential part of the international community, then it will no longer have to worry about its independent status.  Taiwan and China Landmark Deal

I just want to say, CONGRATULATIONS -- Taiwan and USA -- FOR MAKING HISTORY!

Dec 29, 2008 -

I will be there

Childhood memories: The first "music piece" I ever purchased on my own was Emil's 小天堂 album.  I was in the 6th grade, about half a year after I moved to the States, and I was living in Rowland Heights at that time.  I remember the day I had "Emil" in my hands was when I was shopping with my relatives at the 99 Ranch Market Plaza.  After shopping, I told them that I want to walk around the plaza while they go and get some food for our dinner.  I recall walking into a small little shop selling alot of Chinese tapes and CDs.  Back then, I was deprived of Chinese music and missing home and friends in Taiwan deeply.  The CD costs about $14 and the tape was only $8.  Iwas thinking CD would last longer and also it also had a bigger picture of himand his band, but tape was cheaper.  At that time, to me, only around 12 or 13 years old, an $8 tape was already considered very expensive, so I couldn't decide.  Even till today, I can still clearly remember how I stood in front of Emil's poster for quite some time contemplating between buying a CD or tape.  I held the $20 bill in my hand tightly, and finally decided that I would buy tape -- and silently promised myself that when I grow up and earn my own money, I will definitely want to see himin person.

These were the songs that accompanied me through those nights when I missed Taiwan...

Edited: When I was alerted of Wakin's concert in Taipei, I was sooo excited!  I immediately decided that I want to go.  I also sent the news to my director, John, who also is a big Wakin's fan.  Last night, when we were in the office chatting/working, John played Wakin and Jonathan Lee (李宗盛)'s songs and their old concert clips -- I was really moved listening to those songs and watching their performances.  My colleague, Iris, same age as me, was so shocked that I would be so moved by their songs.  She said their songs are one generation ahead of mine and was very surprised of my interest in them.  (Since John is nearly in his mid-30's and has a cute baby boy -- I am definitely not of the same generation.)  As she continued the topic, asking me if I like any younger singers...I thought about it -- of course, I like young and new singers, too, but I realize the effect of the singers from that particular generation has definitely touched a part of me that can not be reached anymore.  Its like...some of those classic English songs, they'd move and touch people's heart anytime, anywhere -- regardless of people's age or world's time.  Maybe to me, they were there with me during some of the toughest time in my life -- therefore, no matter how the world changes, their songs and singing will always move me.
